The Hamptons season just got a little more exciting…
Eleven Madison Park, which is closing its Manhattan space for the summer to renovate and temporarily moving to East Hampton, was recently named this year’s top eating destination in the world at the annual gathering of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. It’s the kind of award most respected for such an honor.
Eleven Madison Park, the temple of high-gastronomy that was No. 3 on last year’s list, was singled out by the organization for “breaking down the walls between dining room and kitchen, making sure the customer experience is harmonious from start to finish.”
The award comes for Eleven Madison as the restaurant is preparing to close in early June for three months to renovate its high-ceilinged, Art Deco space across from Madison Square Park, and move to the old Moby’s spot on Pantigo Road in East Hampton.
The pop-up, which is called EMP Summer House (www.empsummerhouse.com), will be casual and feature a menu that includes lobster boils, fried-chicken dinners and take-away picnic baskets. Reservations for the space are set to open May 1, and can only be made with an American Express card as part of a partnership between the restaurant and the credit card company. EMP Summer House is scheduled to begin service the weekend of June 22.
Chef Daniel Humm and his partner Will Guidara had spent several days in Sydney, Australia, leading up to the announcement in Melbourne.
