Bentley Motors

Bentley Motors hand builds the finest luxury performance cars in the world. Around 4,000 employees at our headquarters in Crewe create our four model lines, the Continental, Flying Spur, Bentayga and Mulsanne.

From the first sketch of a new model, through engineering and development, to the moment a car leaves the production line, every step is undertaken with pride, passion and consummate skill.

Our unique processes combine traditional crafts handed down from generation to generation in areas such as wood and leather with the very latest technologies.

This approach enables us to create cars that remain true to Bentley’s heritage, whilst defining the very epitome of luxury and performance in the modern era.

  • Our History
Bentley celebrates its centenary year in 2019. The company was founded by Walter Owen Bentley in a mews behind Baker Street in London, where the first 3.0-litre engine was fired into life in 1919. Known as W.O.Bentley, the founder’s intention was always ‘To build a fast car, a good car, the best in its class.’ This adage was proven many times, with the famous ‘Bentley Boys’ taking the company to victory five times in the world’s greatest endurance race, the Le Mans 24 Hours, between 1924 and 1930. In the modern era, Bentley added a sixth Le Mans 24 Hours win with a one-two finish in 2003. Today, the Continental GT3 successfully represents Bentley on the world’s racetracks.
  • Made in Crewe
Crewe has been the home of Bentley since 1946, and we are an integral part of the local and broader community. Recent investment led to the construction of CW1 House in 2014, a purpose-built, state-of-the-art showroom located adjacent to the factory. A new four-storey, 7,2000 square metre Research and Development Centre, which is home to more than 400 engineers, was opened by HRH The Princess Royal in 2016.
  • An Extraordinary Team
Bentley attracts the very best engineering, graduate and apprentice talent. The company, which in 2017 was named one of Britain’s Top Employers for the sixth consecutive year, benefits enormously from the considerable resources of the Volkswagen Group, which with more than 600,000 employees is one of the largest employers in the word. Within the Volkswagen Group, Bentley forms part of the Sport Luxury Brand Group alongside Bugatti & Porsche. Bentley is also the world centre of excellence for wood and leather as well as the production of the W12 engine, which is also used by other Volkswagen Group partners.
  • Future Development
Bentley has recently published a development framework a document that sets out our long-term vision for the future growth of Bentley in Crewe. Drawn up by Bentley in consultation with Cheshire East Council, it represents what our factory could look like in the future, based on successfully achieving all of our business objectives over the coming years. This is just the latest step in almost a century of Bentley’s drive for innovation. It is also further proof of our belief that investing in our facilities and our people will enable us to continue to build extraordinary luxury cars for our customers.
